City Defunds Police, Shocked To Learn Criminals Didn’t Get The Memo
In a surprising turn of events that no reasonable adult could have predicted, officials in the city of Clearwater Heights expressed shock and disappointment this week after discovering that local criminals completely ignored the City Council’s recent decision to defund the police department.
“We truly believed that once we removed law enforcement from the picture, crime would simply… stop,” said Councilwoman Harmony Seaglass, sipping an herbal tea designed to reduce “authoritarian vibrations.” “We assumed the criminals would feel heard and respected, and maybe take up knitting.”
Instead, crime rates inexplicably soared.
Residents reported that thieves, burglars, and carjackers appeared “confused but thrilled” by the sudden lack of police presence. One burglar was overheard saying, “I thought this was a trap at first, but nope — city’s really doing this. Bless their hearts.”
City officials insist they’re still trying to understand how things spiraled so quickly.
“We sent out tweets, emails, and even TikTok videos explaining our new Peaceful Community Initiative,” said Mayor Luna Driftwood. “It’s honestly rude that the criminal community didn’t take the time to watch them.”
To combat the crime wave, the city launched an emergency program called Project Self-Policing, encouraging citizens to “handle dangerous situations with gentle words, organic snacks, and positive affirmations.” The guidance recommends phrases like:
- “Please reconsider stealing my wallet; it hurts my self-esteem.”
- “I value your journey, but not the knife you’re holding.”
- “Let’s process this robbery together.”
The city also hired a team of “Conflict De-escalation Artists,” who specialize in playing soothing ukulele music near active crime scenes. Early reports indicate criminals enjoy the background soundtrack while committing felonies.
Local business owner Frank Delaney expressed frustration: “Yesterday, someone broke into my store and walked out with the register. I called the police, and a recorded message told me to ‘embrace the new community-led safety model.’ What does that even mean?”
Despite the chaos, officials remain optimistic.
“We believe crime will eventually fix itself,” said Councilwoman Seaglass. “We just need the criminals to do their part.”
As of press time, they still haven’t.
Because…someone has to say it.
