City Renames ‘Failure’ as ‘Pre-Success’ to Improve Morale

Bankruptcy is now considered growth.

In a sweeping morale initiative, city officials announced this week that the word “failure” will be officially retired from all municipal language, replaced with the more encouraging term “pre-success.”

The change applies immediately to schools, businesses, and government reports.

Under the new system, failed businesses will now be described as “early-stage victories,” while financial collapse will be reframed as “unexpected expansion of perspective.”

“Language shapes reality,” one spokesperson said. “And reality could use better marketing.”

The rebranding has already begun. Closed storefronts now display banners reading Coming Soon: Lessons. Tax deficits have been renamed Deferred Prosperity.

Critics argue the policy may discourage responsibility. Supporters counter that responsibility can feel discouraging.

Officials confirmed they are working on additional updates, including replacing “mistake” with “prototype” and “consequence” with “experience.”

The city assured residents the new vocabulary will improve outcomes, though results remain pre-successful.
