New Parenting Trend Encourages Children to ‘Raise Themselves’ While Adults Observe Respectfully
Parents urged not to interrupt the journey.
A growing number of parenting experts are encouraging families to adopt a hands-off approach in which children raise themselves while adults provide supportive observation from a safe emotional distance.
The trend, known as Autonomous Childhood Development, discourages parents from giving instructions, setting boundaries, or offering unsolicited wisdom.
“Children are born knowing who they are,” one expert explained. “Our role is to witness, not interfere.”
Under the new model, parents are advised to refrain from correcting behavior, enforcing bedtimes, or distinguishing between vegetables and dessert. Instead, they are encouraged to document the child’s choices and affirm the experience.

Families practicing the method report mixed results. Some children have embraced the freedom, while others have relocated to the living room couch permanently.
Parents admit the adjustment takes discipline. “Every instinct in me wanted to say ‘no,’” one mother said. “So I journaled instead.”
Advocates insist outcomes should not be measured traditionally. “Success isn’t obedience,” a spokesperson clarified. “It’s expression.”Plans are underway to expand the philosophy into other areas, including Self-Taught Driving and Independent Tax Discovery.
